Abstract

230,820. Cappa, G. C. March 12, 1924, [Convention date]. Valve gear.-In an engine of the V-type, the cam and other auxiliary shafts are arranged in the plane bisecting the angle between the cylinders and are driven by spur gears situated in the central transverse plane of the engine. Fig. 1 shows the crank shaft 1 divided into two parts connected together through a gear wheel 2 which drives a wheel 3 on the propeller shaft 4. This shaft 4 may also be the cam shaft; or a separate cam shaft 12 may be provided, driven through gear wheels 9, 10, 11. The shaft 7 for the magneto is driven by pinions 5 engaging the wheel 2.
