Abstract

214,240. Schneider, H. April 9, 1923, [Convention date]. Hydraulic transmission apparatus. - An internal-combustion engine 1 drives a lay-shaft 70 of a locomotive through hydraulic change-speed gear, the primary and secondary pumps 40, 50 of which have their rotors mechanically connected, the engine crank-shafts and the shafts of the. change-speed gear being arranged parallel to the driving axles. The engine cylinders are arranged in pairs as shown, and the crank-shafts are coupled together in two sets, the two sets being also coupled to the shaft of the pump 40. The hydraulic gear is of the kind described in Specification 207,558, the primary and secondary pumps, which are connected by conduits 44, 45, having respectively gear wheels 48, 58 which each engage with a gear-wheel 68 on the shaft 70 from which the axles are driven. The gear ratio is changed and reversing may be effected by displacing the hollow shaft of the secondary pump, or the internal-combustion engine may be reversible.
