Abstract

Metal articles having a threaded portion and/or distinct head and stem portions such as bolts, studs, nuts, screws etc. are formed from a soft copper-nickel-aluminium alloy the aluminium content being 0.5-5.0 per cent (preferably 1-3 per cent) and the nickel about 3-4 times the aluminium content and the articles are hardened by heating to 300-600 DEG C. The alloy may be softened by heating to 800-900 DEG C. and rapidly cooling and may contain up to 37 per cent of zinc and/or 0.5-15 per cent of manganese. Specifications 250,194, 254,042, [both in Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], and 386,017 are referred to.
