Abstract
503,423. Alloys; heat treatment. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. (American Brass Co.) Oct. 5, 1937, No. 27004. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] An alloy containing 60-94À45 per cent of copper, 0À05-3 per cent of cadmium, 3-30 per cent of nickel, 0À5-4 per cent of aluminium, and 2-36À45 per cent of zinc is subjected to age-hardening by heating at 300-550‹ C. The nickel content of the alloy is preferably at least three times the aluminium content and the alloy, which may contain up to 1 per cent of manganese or tin or both, may be heated to 700-900‹ C., quenched or rapidly cooled, and subjected to cold working or forming prior to heating at 300-550‹ C. ; the latter heat treatment may be carried out for ¢-24 hours.
