Abstract
578,874. Heat-treating copper alloys. COOK, M., ALEXANDER, W. O., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1941, No. 13377. Addition to 537,404. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Corrosion-resistant copper base alloys are produced by subjecting to the heat treatment described in the parent Specification. an alphaphase aluminum brass containing 1-8 per cent of aluminium, more than 5 and not exceeding 30 of zinc and 0.05-1.0 of chromium, preferably 0.2-0.5. The alloy may also contain up to 10, preferably 3-5, of nickel, up to 5 of manganese and a small proportion of an element adapted to reduce or prevent dezincification, e.g. up to 0.05 of arsenic or phosphorus. The alloys may be subjected to hot and/or cold working prior to the heat treatment and may be used for the manufacture of condenser tubes, ferrules and other wrought strip products, and parts of chemical plants.
