Abstract

381,284. Spray carburetters. TROTMAN, E. W., Shipyard, Littlehampton, Sussex. Aug. 14, 1931, No. 22973. [Class 7 (iii).] A carburetter comprises a hollow body having outlet and inlet openings adapted to be opened and closed by a throttle body slidably mounted coaxially therewith, a fixed jet member terminating in an axial bore in said throttle body, and a tapered hollow needle, open at both ends, carried by and adjustable longitudinally of the throttle body in said axial bore. The carburetter body has an outlet opening 11 and an inlet opening 13 controlled by the throttle body 14 which is axially displaceable by Bowden wire mechanism 35 over a fixed Venturi tube 21 mounted on the main nozzle 18, the orifice of which terminates in an annular groove 24 in the Venturi tube. A tapered hollow needle 31 is carried by the throttle body and is axially adjustable therein by means of the knob 42, stops 32, 33 limiting its movement. The needle terminates in a cage-like enlargement 38. Air enters through the openings 40, 41 and passes through the Venturi tube 21 or as secondary air through the passage 13. Air also enters through the hollow needle 31, this needle being pulled out in order to obtain a rich mixture for starting with the throttle closed.
