Abstract
372,393. Thermionic valves. FREEDMAN, P., 70, Durley Road, London. Feb. 4, 1931, No. 3595. [Class 39 (i).] In a valve having a grid consisting of two flat portions between which a filament cathode is arranged, the grid is separated from the cathode or from another electrode by a coating of insulating material which does not completely cover the surface of the grid, whereby a very close spacing of the electrodes may be obtained. The insulation may consist of a refractory material such as magnesia or thoria. As shown, the grid consists of two sets of strips 15, 16 spaced from a filament cathode 12 and from an anode 17 by coatings of insulating material 19, the strips being welded to end strips joined together by links 20. The strips may be of circular or elliptical section. In another valve the grid strips are spaced from the anode by a coating of insulating material, and from the cathode by wires completely covered with insulating material and preferably arranged co-linearly with the strips. Two grids may be provided.
