Abstract

374,217. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE., Baden, Switzerland. April 27, 1931, No. 12368. Convention date, May 26, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In an anode arm or sleeve b having a number of grids disposed in layers one above the other, a non-controlling grid d is located between the anode and a controlling grid c. The grids may consist of wire mesh or, as shown, of surfaces which are concentric with the sleeve. The grid c may be connected to or insulated from the sleeve, and the grid d, which may be formed of graphite, may be connected to the sleeve when the grid c is insulated therefrom. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the grid d has extended surfaces which penetrate into the spaces between those of the grid c. A further non-controlling grid f may be provided and consists of wire mesh or of concentric surfaces connected to or insulated from the sleeve. The non-controlling grids may be heated from a separate current source or they may be connected together directly or through resistances. The grid f may be given a control potential.
