Abstract

380,261. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Sept. 24, 1931, No. 26644. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In a rectifier having a metallic or a glass container, two or more grids which are disposed in different planes in anode sleeves or arms, one above the other, are heated by means independent of the discharge. Grids g, Fig. 1, formed of wire mesh or consisting of concentric cylinders may be heated by an auxiliary transformer h. A grid of wire mesh and a grid consisting of surfaces extending in the direction of the sleeve axis may be mounted one above the other. Grids consisting of concentric cylinders may be inclined to the sleeve axis, Fig. 5 (not shown). In a modification, a liquid or gaseous heating medium is passed through hollow grids g, Fig. 2, connected in series or in parallel. The grids may be formed of conducting or of semiconducting material, such as graphite, and may be connected to transformer tappings f, Fig. 1, to prevent back-ignition. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 352,389.
