Abstract

352,655. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and WHITAKER, F. P., 237, Clifton Road, Rugby. May 26, 1930, No. 16189. [Class 39 (i).] To facilitate starting, a heating device 5 is mounted within the vacuum chamber and outside the anode shield 3 so as to heat the anodes and also to increase substantially the temperature of the chamber. The heater may consist of a metallic strip arranged close to the anodes which are thereby heated to a temperature higher than that of the chamber. In a modification, an induction heater may be used. The heater may be cut out of circuit when the rectifier reaches normal load.
