Oct. 12, 1934, No. 29279. [Class 39 (i)] In vacuum tubes such as electric discharge devices wherein it is desired to use a filling of for example, sodium, mercury or other metals or mixtures of metals, the material is introduced into the discharge device within a frangible tube, which is subsequently broken by a thermostatic or bimetallic metal strip. This strip may be heated by (i) a surrounding coil through which a heating current is passed, or (ii) high frequency induction, or (iii) thermal conduction from a disc suitably heated.
