389,311. Metallic-vapour apparatus. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. May 13, 1932, No. 13863. Convention date, May 18, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A leading-in member b is electrically and thermally connected to the shank of a graphite anode a by a metallic cup-like sleeve c, screwed into the member b and provided with tongues k which are adapted to grip the shank. The sleeve eliminates stresses due to unequal expansions of the shank and of the member b which, preferably, consists of iron. A plate f of material which has a greater expansion coefficient than that of iron or graphite, is interposed between the end of the shank and the member b. Pins or screws or a cup-nut d and a split ring e may be used for securing the shank. Seals j, l consisting of plaited, twisted or woven wire packings are inserted between the shank and the insulator and between the insulator and the anode sleeve.
