Abstract
372,758. Thermionic valves. FREEDMAN, P., 6, Hillside Gardens, Highgate, London. Feb. 4, 1931, No. 12235/32. Divided on 372,393. [Class 39 (i).] A grid is spaced from a cathode or other electrode by a separate insulating partition having a number of passages, whereby close spacing of the electrodes is obtained. The partitions may consist of expanded metal, wire gauze, or a similar metal structure, coated with an insulating material such as magnesia or thoria, or it may be formed entirely of insulating material. As shown in Fig. 2, the grid, consisting of a number of strips 15, 16, is spaced from a filament cathode 12, and from an anode 17 by partitions 28, 32 consisting of perforated metal sheets covered with insulation. In the valve shown in Fig. 4, a grid 39 is spaced from an anode 42 by metal gauze 43 coated with insulation, and from an indirectly-heated cathode 37 by a helical wire 40, which is coated with insulation and is rendered integral with the cathode. The partition between the grid and anode may be connected with the cathode so as to reduce capacity, or a separate potential may be applied to it. The valve may have two grids.
