Abstract

365,322. Perambulator &c. brakes. HALLWORTH, J., 2, Lower Hillgate, Stockport. Jan. 16, 1931, No. 1473. [Class 103 (i).] A brake for perambulators and like vehicles, comprises a brake shoe arranged to be moved laterally to engage the sides of the tyres or rims of two wheels. An operating lever 6, the end 61 of which may be engaged by the foot, is pivoted at 7 to a baseplate 1 secured to the vehicle spring 4 and is connected at 13 to sliding rod 11 on which is pivotally carried the brake shoe 17 for application to the wheels 15, 16. A tumbler lever 8 pivoted at 9 to the baseplate and at 12 to the rod 11 is slotted to receive a pin 22 attached to a spring 24 which thus normally holds the brake shoe in the ".off " position shown. During the application movement of the parts, the pin 22 slides to the other end of the lever 8 and thus holds the brake shoe applied. The parts are enclosed in a casing secured to the baseplate 1. The pivotal mounting of the shoe 17 ensures equalization of the pressure on the two wheels.
