Abstract

607,858. Brakes for hand-propelled vehicles. BOTT, S. May 10, 1944, No. 8870. [Class 103(i)] In brakes for hand-propelled vehicles, that are applied by a spring when the propelling handle is released, the brake is controlled by a cable attached to a plug fitted to the handle and rotatable with it to release the brake. The perambulator brake shown comprises levers 6 pivoted at 6<SP>1</SP> to the frame and normally applied at the ends 8 to the wheels 4, 5 by springs 9. A Bowden cable 12 extends from a pin 13 in a slot in the levers, through the handle arm 17 to a plug 15 which fits in the bracket 16 and is secured within the handle 18 to rotate with it. The plug is grooved at 27 for the cable 12 and the base of the groove may be cam-shaped to enhance the pull on the cable when the handle is turned. In a modification, the handle and its arm are of T-form and only one part of the handle is rotatable.
