[Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Means for simultaneously braking the swivelling movement of a castor and the rotation of the castor wheel comprises a non-rotatable brake member which is moved axially to engage a friction member usually carried by the fork, the movement of the friction member effecting the application of a brake to the wheel. As applied to a trolley the wheel fork 1 is mounted between ball-bearings 5, 6 on a fixed cap 7 and a nut on the fixed peg 28. A slotted bar 10 slidable on a pin on the fork 1 is connected to the cranked end 15 of the operating cam arm 16 of an internal expanding brake the shoes 21 of which engage an annulus 24 of the wheel 2. A non-rotatable brake member 27 is slidable on the peg 28 to engage a friction block 13 on the bar 10 thus preventing swivelling movement of the fork 1 and applying the brake 21 to the wheel. As shown in Fig. 3 the member 27 is engaged by a spring 29 and is disengaged by a cable 33 but when as in Fig. 1 the brakes of two castors are operated simultaneously the members 27 may be connected to a bar 34 operated by a cable 41 from the trolley handle 42 which is pivoted at 43 on brackets 45 the arrangement being such that the brakes are applied by the springs when the handle is released. The application springs may be arranged between the part 35 and the trolley frame.
