Abstract

254,440. Hewitt, W. April 25, 1925. Locking by frictional delents.-Relates to combined stay and brake operating mechanism such as described in Specification 230,653 for perambulators and like vehicles, and consists in the provision of means whereby the brake, which may be a drum brake, may be operated independently of the stay. The stay 6 for preventing tipping of the vehicle. is. mounted on a spindle. 8 and is connected by a link 10 to an arm on a boss 12 mounted on a. second spindle. The boss 12 carries also a hand lever 14 and an arm 24 provided with a screw 25 adapted to engage the arm 22 of the cam 21 of an internal expanding shoe brake, the drum 23 of which is provided on the hub of the wheel 5. A second hand lever 27 is connected by a wire 26 to the arm 22. By means o[ the hand lever 14 the stay may be brought into the operative position and the brake simultaneously applied, or the brake may be applied without operating the stay, as when descending a hill, by the hand lever 27.
