Abstract

283,429. Nisbet, G. A. July 27, 1927. Safety wheels and supports attached to cycles. -Means for raising and lowering a pair of auxiliary wheels 1 of a cycle, and locking them in either position, comprises a lever 10, provided with a pedal 19 and connected by a rod 9 to a lug 14 on an arcuate rod 3, which slides in a tube 4 and carries the frame 2 for the auxiliary wheels 1, the frame and wheels being raised by depression of the pedal 19 and lowered by a spring 5 in the tube 4 when the lever 10 is released from its normally locked position by lateral movement of the pedal and lever. For locking purposes, the lever 10, in addition to its pivoted movement in a vertical plane, is capable of lateral pivotal movement, whereby it is engaged or disengaged from one of two notches in a flange projecting from the edge of a plate 11 fixed to the frame tube 21, the lever 10 being held in either of the notches by a leaf spring, to lock the wheelcarrying frame in either the raised or lowered position; the lever is released by lateral pressure of the foot on the pedal.
