Abstract
185,067. Jones, H., and McGill, J. March 8, 1922. Hand-trucks.-A hand-truck is provided with a 'pair of hinged sectors mounted between the wheels and handles to act as a fulcrum in raising or lowering the truck to or from a higher level. The sectors 4, Fig. 1, are hinged to the side frames of the truck 1, and are connected to a slidable actuating bar 11 by springs 8. The bar 11 projects forwards to form a striker and is held in its forward position by a spring 13. Slotted latches 16 engaged by pins 19 on the bars 11 normally engage pins 20 on the sectors to hold them up. When the striker encounters a curb or step, it is pushed in to release the sectors. The handles 3 are then raised, Fig. 4, to allow the sectors 4 to be swung forwards by the springs 8, to the position shown, the truck then being raised with the sectors acting as fulcra, after which they may be folded up. In descending steps, the actuating bar is pulled back to cause the hinge connections 10 to lie behind the sector hinges, so that the sector will swing clear of the step.
