Abstract
470,928. Aircraft alighting - gear. BRIE, R. A. C. Feb. 25, 1936, No. 5631. [Class 4] Aircraft alighting-gear comprises an extensible and compressible shock-absorbing undercarriage and a pilot-operated locking-device for positively locking together relatively movable members so as to prevent the undercarriage from developing maximum extension. In one form, a member 11 carrying a wheel 14 and a member 13 slide within a casing 12 against the action of shock-absorbing means. When the members are compressed, operation of a hand-lever 26 through a Bowden wire 28, lever 25, links 23, 24 and levers 21, 22 cause pins 17, 18 to enter recesses 15, 16 to lock the strut in its compressed position. A spring 29 assists the engagement of the pins in the recesses. In a modification, the pin 17 is adapted to engage in the recess 15 before the pin 18 engages the recess 16, by this means the strut may have three lengths and the hand lever is consequently adapted to be locked in one or other of its corresponding positions.
