Abstract
548,099. Aircraft retractable undercarriages. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., CHAPLIN, H. E. and FORSTER, F. W. June 17, 1941, No. 7648. [Class 4] The oleo leg of a retractable tail wheel is pivoted about a transverse axis e and is braced in its operative position by a jointed strut g, h the part h being acted upon by a jack q to raise and lower the tail wheel, and initial movement of the jack serving to actuate detents t, u for locking the strut in its retracted and extended positions respectively. The detents t, u are connected by links s, s<SP>1</SP> to a rocking lever n pivoted in a lug o on the part hare pivoted to the jack plunger. The detent t is spring urged into engagement with a lug v on the part g when the leg is retracted. The detent u, in the extended position of the tail wheel engages a notch x in a circular plate w on the part g over which the detent rides during the extending operation until it snaps into the notch under the pull of the jack.
