Abstract

860,432. Aircraft undercarriages. ELECTROHYDRAULICS Ltd. May 16, 1957 [July 17, 1956], No. 22140/56. Class 4. In an aircraft undercarriage mounted for retraction into the fuselage by fore-and-aft and inward movement, linkage is provided to maintain the wheel bogie parallel to the aircraft fore-and-aft axis to reduce drag during retraction. The undercarriage comprises a main leg 3 extended by a cranked portion 1 mounted by a skewed pivot 2 in the fuselage. The leg 3 carries a rotatable sleeve 6, 7 which houses the sliding tube assembly 4 on which the bogie 9 is mounted. A break-joint bracing strut 12 locks the undercarriage in the down position and the sleeve part 6 is pivotally connected to one end of a link 14 secured to the airframe. During retraction and extension of the undercarriage by a jack 16, the link 14, through sleeve 6, 7 and scissors linkage 11 serves to maintain the bogie 9 parallel to the fore and aft axis of the aircraft. The sleeve 6, 7 and link 14 may be dispensed with and the scissors linkage connected by a link to the strut 12.
