Abstract
820,217. Aircraft undercarriages. ELECTROHYDRAULICS Ltd. April 16, 1957 [May 4, 1956], No. 13917/56. Class 4. In an aircraft undercarriage having tandem wheels mounted on a bogie, the bogie is arranged to lie substantially parallel and adjacent the main leg when the undercarriage is retracted. The main leg 1, pivoted to the aircraft structure and provided with a sliding tube assembly 2 is pivoted adjacent the forward end of a wheel bogie 3 and braced to the structure by a folding strut 6. A shock absorber 5 pivotally connects the aircraft structure and the bogie at a point aft of the connection with assembly 2. To retract the undercarriage to the position shown by chain-dotted centre lines a jack (not shown) " breaks " strut 6 and swings the undercarriage upwardly, the shock absorber 5 becoming fully extended before swinging the bogie about its pivot with assembly 2. The geometry may be so arranged that, after folding of the undercarriage, the shock absorber causes members 1, 2 to shorten. This may be achieved also by shortening shock absorber 5 by hydraulic means.
