Abstract
1,007,220. Retractable undercarriages. DORNIER-WERKE G.m.b.H. Sept. 24, 1964 [Sept. 28, 1963], No. 38942/64. Heading B7G. An aircraft undercarriage comprises a wheel 5 mounted on a trailing arm 2 pivoted at 1, and is retracted by a downward movement of the pivot 1, causing the wheel to be raised, and by pivotal movement about a longitudinal axis such as 24 (Fig. 3). The arm 2 is connected by links 4 and bell cranks 14 or 16, 17 to a longitudinally extending shock absorber 13, the axis of which may replace the axis 24. A strut 9 depends from the shock absorber and includes an hydraulic jack (as shown), or a screw-jack (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), for depressing the pivot 1. The two parts of the jack have co-operating teeth 8 for preventing their relative rotation when the wheel is fully lowered. Two or more wheels may be provided in tandem, and, as shown, one of them may be steerable, the lower part 22 of the strut having two parts relatively rotatable by a jack 23. A toggle link 7 on the strut may be connected by a link 28 to a fairing 10 to increase its distance from the wheels when they are fully lowered to facilitate the steering movement.
