Abstract
534,522. Aircraft landing-gear. REID, A. C. June 12, 1939, No. 17173. [Class 4] A retractable undercarriage is incorporated in the tip part of a supporting wing with the wheel at the end of the wing, the tip part being hinged at its inner end to a fixed part of the wing about an axis lengthwise of the aircraft for lowering and retracting movement of the, undercarriage. As shown, a landing wheel mounted on an oleo leg j pivoted at a<1> is enclosed in a fairing h<2> which forms, when retracted into an horizontal position, the outer part of a stub wing. The undercarriage is lowered into the position shown by a rod c which is operated by an hydraulic motor and is pivoted to an arm b on the leg. Catch devices are used to lock the undercarriage in its two positions, and indicators are employed to notify the positions to the pilot. A movable bracing strut k is pivoted to the leg and to a slide movable in the fixed part of the stub wing. The strut carries a skin section h<3> adapted to close a slot in the pivoted part of the wing when the undercarriage is retracted, the slide being connected to a movable skin section for closing a slot in the fixed part of the wing.
