Abstract
463,739. Retractable alighting-gear for aircraft. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and FRISE, L. G. Nov. 4, 1935, No. 30494. [Class 4] In retractable landing-gear of the kind comprising a retractable linkage of which one link is pivoted at one end either to a fixed part or to another member of the linkage and has its other end constrained by means of a guide to move along a predetermined path during retraction and extension, the guide is formed at the end engaged by the link in the fully open position of the gear with an auxiliary portion of such shape as to prevent collapse of the gear under forces acting on the landing wheel or like part and the linkage is actuated by a jack which is connected to an offset extension on the pivoted link whereby force applied by the jack to the link rotates it out of engagement with the auxiliary portion, thus allowing the linkage to be collapsed. A main landing wheel 10, Figs. 1 and 3, is carried by sliding parts 11 of twin telescopic shock absorbing legs pivoted at 13 to the aircraft structure. A collar 14 is fitted to non-sliding part 12 of each leg, and a link 15 is pivoted thereto about an axis 16. The upper ends of links 15 are connected by a tube at the ends of which are mounted flanged rollers 18 running in guides 19. Guides 19 are formed with a straight track portion 20 at the bottom end of which is an offset portion 21. Each link 15 is formed with an offset lever 22 coupled by a link 23 to an axle 26 to which the piston rod 27 of a hydraulic jack is connected. Axle 26 is anchored by means of short links 29 to brackets 30 on leg parts 12. Links 23 are braced by a tube 31. A latch may be fitted to hold the parts in the position of Fig. 1 or of Fig. 3. In a modification the upper end of tracks 20 may also be formed with off'set portions concentric with the axles 16 in the position these occupy in Fig. 3. According to the Provisional Specification the invention may be applied to retractable wireless masts.
