[Class 4] In retractable alighting-gear for aircraft of the kind comprising two links pivoted together and each pivoted to a fixed part of the aircraft and in which one of two links comprises two portions hinged together, one element of a jack serving for retraction and extension is connected to the composite link and the other either directly to the first mentioned link or to an extension thereof. Fig. 1 shows an undercarriage comprising a pivoted wheel-carrying fork constituted by two shock-absorbing struts 11 interconnected by X-shaped bracing members, and a pair of folding struts each of which comprises a part 16 pivotally attached to strut 11 and a part 17 pivotally attached to the aircraft structure. The upper ends of parts 17 are interconnected by an axle 20 carrying upstanding arms 19. providing a bearing for jack cylinder 21. Piston rod 22 of the jack is pivotally connected to the bracing element of struts 11. Figs. 4 and 5 show a modification adapted to a laterally folding undercarriage in which the jack cylinder (not shown in Fig. 4), is pivoted to arms 27 on leg 11 and the piston rod to arms 28 integral with a shaft 25 to which link part 17 is secured. The joint between elements 16, 17 may be arranged to pass over the dead centre position when the gear is fully extended. According to the Provisional Specification the invention may be applied to retractable wireless masts. Looking means such as described in Specification 464,144 may be used.
