Abstract
438,296. Aircraft landing gear. DOWTY, G. H., 17, Lansdown Crescent, Cheltenham. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35231. [Class 4] In a retractable undercarriage for aircraft in which a compression leg 4<c> and a strut 3 are pivotally connected to the aircraft and to one another, the leg normally extends above its point of connection 16 with the aircraft and embodies a jack 13, 14 to contract its overall length for retraction. As shown, the portion 14 is articulated to the spar 17 and houses a piston 13 formed on the leg 4<c>. Admission of pressure to raise the piston 13 effects retraction of the landing gear. The jack may also function as a hydraulic shockabsorber. The Provisional Specification describes also a shock-absorber connected by a link to a wing spar and by a radius rod to a rear spar. Actuation of a jack connected between the spar and the link effects whole or partial retraction of the landing-gear.
