Abstract

490,087. Aircraft alighting - gear. MERCIER, J. May 13, 1937, No. 13524. [Class 4] In a retractable undercarriage for high or mid-wing aeroplanes, each wheel or other landing element is carried at the lower end of an elbow-shaped member, the arms of the member, when retracted, being adapted to mate with the fuselage and the wing ; pneumatic, hydraulic, electric or mechanical means are connected to the member for retracting the wheel. In one form, a landing wheel 5 is carried by the member 3 having forked arms 3a articulated in the fuselage 1. The member 3 is connected to the fuselage by a foldable strut 9a, 9b which includes shock-absorbing mechanism 8. The strut is folded to effect retraction of the undercarriage by operation of a jack 11 operating on the pivot between the parts 9a, 9b of the strut. The strut 9a. 9b may be replaced by a strut which incorporates a jack: The member 3 may incorporate shock-absorbing means and the arms may have more than two parts.
