429,867. Aircraft landing-gear. SOC. D'INVENTIONS AERONAUTIQUES ET MECANIQUES S.I.A.M., 1, Route des Alpes, Fribourg, Switzerland. Aug. 29, 1934, Nos. 24886 and 24887. Convention dates, May 24 and June 27. [Class 4] In retractable landing-gear for aeroplanes in which the gear is held in its extended position by a foldable strut, means are provided for transferring the stresses tending to open the strut hinge to a locking-device independent of means for operating the gear, the device being set in a position so that it has to support only very small stresses or is movable against but small resistance. As shown, a shock-absorber A for a wheel R is pivoted to facilitate retraction of the wheel by means of a foldable strut J<1>, J<2> pivoted to the shock-absorber and to the rear wing spar L. An auxiliary arm C on the portion J<2> of the strut co-operates with a hydraulic locking-device V to hold the undercarriage in its operative position. Folding of the strut on release of the locking device, is facilitated by a spring-pressed piston-rod r which urges the arm C downwardly. The landing-gear may be retracted, e.g. by means of a cable. The members J<1> may form a fork. In a modification, an extension of the member J<2> is connected to a hydraulically-operated ram m and moves between plates x a spring- pressed hydraulically-controlled locking-bolt p being provided. The landing-gear may be combined with operating-mechanism described in Specification 425,207.
