663,245. Undercarriages. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. March 14, 1950 [April 19, 1949], No. 10399/49. Class 4. In an undercarriage of the bogie type in which a. fluid-operated jack is provided to vary the attitude of the bogie in relation to the undercarriage leg, a lost-motion connection is provided between the jack and one of the undercarriage elements such that no force is transmitted between the jack and the element until the lost-motion has been talcen up, such lostmotion being sufficient to allow canting of the bogie adequate for normal taxying. As shown in Fig, 1 the piston rod 19 of the jack 16 is connected to a lever 20 pivoted on the bogie frame 15, and movable between stops 22, 25 on the bogie, giving the desired lost-motion. When the jack is operated the outward movement of the piston rod 19 has no effect on the bogie until the lever 20 engages the stop 22. Oscillations of the bogie frame are controlled by an oleo-pneumatic damper 30 connected between the frame and undercarriage leg 12, and arranged to move through a dead-centre position during retraction and extension of the undercarriage. Stops 26, 27 on the bogie 15 and leg 12 come into contact when the undercarriage is fully retracted, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the modification according to Fig. 3 the rod 45 of the jack 42 is connected to the bogie by torque links 35, 36 and a lostmotion sector plate 40 pivoted on the leg 12, a curved slot. 41 in the plate being engaged by a pin 38 at the end of a. short arm 37 integral with the link 35.
