686,953. Aircraft undercarriages. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and THIHSK, W. H. June 11, 1951. No. 13819/51. Class 4. In a retractable undercarriage for an aircraft, each main wheel 1 is carried by an arm 2 attached to the leg 4 by a pivot 3 and con nected to a shock ab sorber 7 by a pivot 8 The upper end 9 of the shock absorber is pivotally connected to a swinging link 10 which is mounted on a pivot 11 fast with the leg 4 and inter mediate its ends is connected at 14 to the piston rod 13 of a hydraulic ja,ck 12. A single door 15 fo closing the space in the wing into which the wheel and leg are retracted is attached to the leg by brackets (not shown), such that on actuation of the jack 12 the arm 2 is rocked about the pivot 3 to bring the wheel 13 within the area of the door 15, whereafter the leg 4 may be retracted into the space in the wing for the door to completely close the same. The retracting mechanism Fig. 2, (not shown) comprises for each undercarriage a pair of transversely disposed interconnected toggle links, one attached to the wing structure and the other to the leg 4, the links being "broken" and retracted by a hydraulic jack which connects one link to the wing structure.
