Abstract

548,916. Remote control fastenings. PERCIVAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and NOBLE, J. M. May 10, 1941, No. 6080. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXXIII] A fastening for locking a pivoted member against movement and having remote control means which releases the member and then moves it, the fastening being particularly applicable to retractable undercarriages, landing flaps, bomb doors, and auxiliary aerofoils on aircraft, is shown as applied to a pivoted member 6, 11 forming part of an undercarriage, and comprises a pivoted hook 2 loaded by spring 4 and with an inclined nose 5 so that the hook engages part 6 automatically and holds it against a fixed abutment bracket 9. Part 6 carries a lever 13 pivoted at 12, the movement of the lever being limited by an arcuate slot 18 and pin 17 to which the remote control transmission rod 16 is attached. When rod 16 is moved to the right, lever 13 is rocked anticlockwise until arrested by the end of slot 18. During this movement the upper end of the lever rides up a cam member 8 carried by the hook, which is thereby moved out of engagement. Further movement of rod 16 is then transmitted to the released pivoted member. Two levers may be provided, one on each side of part 6, with a common pivot pin 12 and common pin 17 which passes through slot 18. The hook has a corresponding pair of cam members 8, and the rod 16 is bifurcated. As shown, a second oppositely disposed catch and abutment bracket are provided so that the undercarriage is looked in both raised and lowered positions, this additional catch being released by reverse movement of rod 16, in a manner similar to that described above. Micrometer switches, not shown, may be suitably placed to control indication of the locked condition of the member. Operation may be by power or hand, and in the latter case may be by hand winch and cable attached to pin 17, with tensioning means to take up slack.
