Abstract
673,525. Automatic couplings for vehicles. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION, Ltd., DADSWELL, C. J., and WHITEHOUSE, G. D. Nov. 24, 1950 [July 7, 1950], No. 17044/50. Class 103(v) A knuckle coupler, of the type having a lock manually operable through a lock lifter and a rotor, has the rotor arranged for actuation by means of a side pull lever which is pivoted to the coupler and has one end adapted for co-operation with a cam surface on the rotor, the lever being connected at its other end with an operating means at the side of the vehicle. In the embodiment shown a generally L- shaped lever 22, Fig. 3, is pivoted at 23 to a coupler head 1. The end 22b of the lever 22 is connected by means of a chain or rope to a pulling handle at the side of the vehicle whilst the end 22a is shaped to engage a cam surface 20a, Fig 5, on the rotor 12. When the lever 22 is rotated its end 22a slides in a slot 20 in the rotor 12 to rotate the rotor about its pivot 6, and the lock lifter 11, which is pivoted at 9 to the rotor 12, is thereby operated. Anti-creep means 14a, 16a are provided on the rotor and lock lifter respectively.
