Abstract
816,459. Remotely operated fastenings. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd., and BETHELL, B. May 24, 1957, No. 16559/57. Class 44 In a door locking and moving mechanism a door moving jack 4 which is capable on bodily movement of actuating the door locking mechanism, and on movement of its ram of moving the door 1 between open and closed positions is associated with interlocking mechanism which prevents effective movement of its ram until after bodily movement of its body to release the door locking mechanism and which only allows the door locking mechanism again to become effective when the door is closed. In the construction shown the door 1 is carried by brackets 2 which are hinged to a structure at 3. The free end of the ram carries a fork 5 which is connected to the bracket 2 and the jack is pivotally supported by an extension 6 of its body. The extension has laterally extending members 7 each working in a slot 8 in guide plates 9, 10 and the free end of the extension is connected by links and bell crank levers to the door locking mechanism so that on initial extension of the jack the movement of the jack body permitted by the members 7 in the slots 8 disengages the locking mechanism so that movement of the ram then displaces the door from its closed to its open position. The interlocking mechanism which prevents movement of the ram until the door locking mechanism has released the door comprises a push rod 11 one end of which is guided by a member 12 in slots 13 in guide plates 14, 15 while its other end has a member 16 working in angled slots 17 in guide plates 18, 19; the members 12. 16 extend across forks 20, 21 at the ends of the rod 11. The guide plates 14, 15 pivotally mount a plate 23 having a cam surface 24 and a hook portion 25, the spring 26 urging the plate 23 in a clockwise direction as shown; the shaft 22 on which the plate 23 is mounted carries an arm 27 which at its free end has a roller 28 which runs on the edge of the extension 6 which has a step 29. The door 1 has a hook bracket 30 which normally engages the member 16 on the rod 11. In the position of the parts with the door 1 closed and locked, the jack is in its lower body position with the extension 6 holding the arm 27 rocked against the spring 26 and the plate 23 is then in position for its hook portion 25 to engage the member 12 to hold the rod 11 in its uppermost position; when the jack is extended so that the members 7 move from one end of the slots 8 to the other to unlock the door, the roller 28 rolls under the step 29 so that the plate 23 moves clockwise for its hook portion 25 to move clear of the member 12; the rod 11 can then move downwardly when the movement of the jack ram opens the unlocked door. On contraction of the jack to close the door the ram only can move, since the body is held by the roller 28 under the step 29; as the door closes the hook end of the bracket 30 engages the member 16 and advances it along the slots 17 and so raises the push rod 11 so that the member 12 engages the surface 24 of the plate 23 and rocks the plate anti-clockwise against the spring 26. The arm 27 moves with the plate 23 and brings the roller 28 almost clear of the step 29; the jack body can then move downwardly and the nose of the step 29 acts on the roller 28 to complete the displacement of the arm 27 which moves the plate 23 back into normal position for the hook portion 25 to engage the member 12. The door locking mechanism comprises a pivoted tongue 31 which engages a bar 33 carried by brackets 34 on the door; the tongue 31 is part of a bellcrank lever which is connected by a link member 35 to a rockable plate 37 to which the final link 38 of the link and bellcrank system is pivoted.
