Abstract
494,961. Locking aircraft control surfaces. FLUGZEUGWERK HALLE GES. May 3, 1937, Nos. 12574, 12575, and 12576. Convention dates, May 2, 1936, Nov. 14, 1936, and Nov. 24, 1936. [Class 4] When aircraft are on the ground the rudders or other control surfaces are locked to prevent accidental movement and damage by means released by the accelerator, retractable undercarriage, tail skid, &c. The locking-means comprises spring pins engaging the rudders and operated by a lever a, Fig. 3, held in locking position by a spring pin l. A wedge face g<1> on the accelerator pedal is adapted to release the pin l and the locking-means when the accelerator is actuated. The wedge face engages a plunger h articulated to a lever i connected by Bowden wire k to the pin l. In Fig. 5, the engagement of the landing wheel with the ground releases a latch n from a slide m on the cable operating the locking-means. The engagement of members n, m during flying prevents the rudder being locked. A similar arrangement is shown operated by a tail skid. In further modifications, special means engage the ground to release the locking device. A locking pin is shown in Fig. 11 and comprises telescopic parts e, e<11> held apart by a spring t. The part e<11> has a head e<1> fitting in a groove v in the rudder.
