578,987. Landing - gear. MORANESAULNIER, (formerly AEROPLANES MORANE-SAULNIER, SOC. ANON. DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES). April 23, 1945, No. 10197. Convention date. May 15, 1940. [Class 4] A shock-absorber G carrying wheel,W is retracted from the position of use, Fig. 1., about pivot H by the action of a hydraulic jack V on an arm I rigid with the shockabsorber G, which is locked in the position of use by a strut consisting of two parts A, A<1> pivoted together at B and locked to serve as a strut by a member C, which is shown in Fig. 2 as being part of a lever L. Breaking of the strut joint is effected by control lever T being moved in direction f to open valve D for turning pivoted lever L and lock C, the further movement of lever L bringing a part R into contact with a part R<1> of strut part A<1> to raise pivot B over the dead-line to break the strut joint : movement of control lever T in direction f<2> supplies hydraulic pressure to operate jack V for retracting the landing gear. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4, only a single movement of control lever X is required, the first result being to supply hydraulic pressure to jack V the cylinder of which, in consequence of the piston being held by the arm I of the locked shock-absorber G, acts by its closed end to open compressed air valve D for breaking the strut joints at B and allow the jack to retract the shockabsorber.
