484,938. Retractable alighting-gear for aircraft. AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS, Ltd., and BOUND, R. H. Jan. 4, 1937, No. 237. [Class 4] An articulated radius rod or like component of a retractable undercarriage is adapted to be folded by the actuation of a jack which is connected to. one arm of a lever pivotally mounted on one part of the rod and extending transversely thereto when the two rod members are in alignment, the other end of the lever being connected to the other rod part. A radius rod, Fig. 1, comprises parts 5, 6 hinged together at 8. A lever 12 is pivotally mounted at 11 on part 5 and has one end connected by a link 13 to part 6 and the other connected to piston rod 10 of a jack 9 pivotally mounted on a lug 5a formed on part 5. Extension of the jack causes folding of the rod parts about pivot 8 and thus retraction of the undercarriage. Link 13 is connected to part 6 by a pin 14, Fig. 3, engaging in a slot 15 of a lug 16. Initial retracting movement causes the pin to move up the slot and rock a spring-urged locking member 18 out of engagement with a stop 20 on part 5. On extension, the return of member 18 to locking position effects closure of a switch 21 in an electrical warning system. Specifications 442,133, 457,982, and 473,202 are referred to.
