Abstract

707,731. Aircraft undercarriages. ELECTROHYDRAULICS, Ltd. Oct. 2, 1950 [July 14, 1949], No. 18618/49. Class 4 A bogie-type undercarriage comprises shock absorbing means adapted both to damp the landing loads and to bias the bogie, without the use of a subsidiary shock absorber, so that upon landing some, but not all, of the landing wheels make initial contact with the ground and thus reduce the drag on the undercarriage. As shown the lower end of the shock absorber 32 in the leg 1 is pivoted at 35 to a link 34 whose lower end is, in turn, pivoted to the bogie 29 at a point 36 to the rear of the point of connection 30 of the leg 1 and bogie, whereby at touch-down the latter is maintained in a tail-down attitude. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the undercarriage leg 1 is freely telescopic, the shock absorbing means being connected between lugs on the leg and rear end of the bogie respectively, the point of connection between the leg and bogie being near the front of the latter.
