506,719. Aircraft alighting gear. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., WILLIAMS, D. L. H., and CROCOMBE, F. F. Nov. 29, 1937, No. 11795/39. Divided out of 506,527. [Class 4] In an aircraft which includes alighting-gear having nose and main elements disposed respectively, forwardly and rearwardly of the centre of gravity of the aircraft so that when resting on the elements, the tail of the aircraft is maintained clear of the ground, the nose element is retractable wholly or partly into the fuselage by being moved in a substantially vertical direction. As shown, a castoring or steerable and castoring nose wheel 13 is carried by a shock-absorber 16, 17. The shockabsorber is connected to the aircraft by parallel links 18, 19 and the wheel is retracted on operation of a jack 27 disposed diagonally across the parallelogram. The castoring may be restrained.
