Wheels, runners, and skids.-The chassis of each front wheel of a three-engined aeroplane is stream-lined in one with the side engine framework 37. Each wheel is slidably mounted in the chassis on a linkwork 87, 88, having a fixed pivot 89; one of the members 87, 88 is connected to the chassis bv sandows. The wheels are of large size and the chassis is shaped to form a skid surface 27 provided with rollers. The axle 86 can be removed through openings 35, and the wheel through doors 36. The wheel may be positioned by members removable during flight, so that the wheels may drop off, for instance when alighting on water. The wheels may be connected to the fuselage by a cable so that they act as brakes in the water. For towing purposes, automatic shutters give access to coupling members attached to the chassis framework. A tail skid 73, Fig. 10, has on extension 76, connected by sandows 79 and links 81 to the fuselage. A spade 40 is normally retained by a bolt 42 rotatable from the cock-pit. The spade may be on the landing chassis or fuselage, and more than one may be provided. The sandows may be replaced by a spring shock-absorber.
