Abstract
359,087. Supporting, propelling, and controlling aeroplanes. MUEHLEN, H. A. VON DER, 54, Cambridge Terrace, London. Aug. 2, 1930, No. 23323. [Class 4.] An aeroplane has a main supporting plane 2 secured to two or more fuselages 1 which are braced together by two additional planes 3, 4 arranged below and to the front and rear of the main plane. The rear ends of the fuselages are connected by a stabilizing plane fitted with an elevator 8 and carrying a series of fins and rudders. Hinged flaps 5 movable in unison are provided on the planes 3, 4 for varying the lift. Pusher propellers 12, 13 are provided at the trailing edges of the planes 2, 3 and tractor propellers at the leading edge of the plane 4. Propellers may be provided at the forward ends of the fuselages and the plane 2. The central section of the plane 2 constitutes the main passenger accommodation and access thereto is obtained by stairways leading from doors in the fuselages. The fuselages have lightening spaces 11. The landing gear comprises tandem wheels well forward beneath and partially housed in each fuselage and single wheels spaced sufficiently to the rear to prevent the tail from touching the ground during a normal landing. A three-fuselage machine is described in which the front auxiliary plane does not extend beyond the outer fuselages.
