Abstract
283,980. Wenk, F., and Weltensegler- Flugzeugbau-Ges. July 20, 1926. Planes, arrangement and construction of.-An aeroplane wing has an outer portion of negative incidence set with its neutral axis and spar inclined backwards with respect to the neutral axis of the main spar of the inner portion, and the line of lift of the inner portion being behind the main spar in order that the bending and twisting moments on the spar may be minimized. Fig. 2 shows inner portions 3 of the wings of positive incidence and set at a dihedral angle mounted on main spars 7 and subsidiary spars 14 both of which are forwardly inclined. The outer portions 4 are backwardly inclined and set at a reversed dihedral and are supported on convergent spars. The portions 3, 4 meet along forwardly convergent lines 5. The rear edges of the wings are flexible and the spars 14 are elastically connected to the hull. Ailerons 6 are mounted on the portions 4 which arc of symmetrical profile. Fig. 5 shows a biplane in which the outer portions are connected together at 26 and the junctions 5 are connected by struts 27. A modification is described in which the rear edges of the parts 3, 4 are in the same straight line, the front edges of the parts 3 also being in line and the front edges of the parts 4 inclined backwards. An elevator without stabilizing-surface and a rudder are provided. Propelling; floats, arrangement of.-A seaplane is described in which the parts 3 spring from the sides of a central boat body and two auxiliary floats are secured beneath the parts 3 which also carry supports for two engines and propellers. Or a single engine support may be mounted on a central horizontal plane section between the parts 3, and beneath this section are mounted the central body and auxiliary floats. Fig. 9 shows a further modification in which a central boat body 32 has edge cushions 33 extending to the last third of the depth of the lifting surface where also a step occurs in the bottom of the hull. Land wheels. - A single wheel is partially housed in the forward part of the fuselage of a land machine and a tail skid beneath the rear part.
