Abstract
522,767. Aircraft launching gear. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd.. WILLIAMS. D. L. H., and CROCOMBE, F. F. Dec. 15, 1938, No. 36613. [Class 4] A method of launching or assisting take off of aircraft consists in supporting the aircraft by a structure, preferably a tricycle undercarriage 10, of which at least a nose component 6 of the aeroplane alighting gear is supported on the trolley. In such cases means such as 13 are included to maintain the landing element in contact with the trolley. The component 6 is forward of the centre of gravity of the aeroplane. and main landing gear 8 which is duplicated laterally, is rearward of the centre of gravity. The trolley 10 can be accelerated as by a cable 11 operated by a fluid pressure jack or by a drum winding mechanism. A nose wheel 7 is mounted between chocks 13, 14 the front one of which can be pivoted out of their way. In a modification, Fig. 2, the front wheel 7 is retained by forked lugs 15 secured by pins 19 retracted when necessary by cords 18. The forked lugs may be extended to engage pins on the aeroplane and may pivot outwards. In another modification rear wheels 9 may be supported on separate runways.
