Abstract

357,476. Aeroplane landing gear. FIAT SOC. ANON., 250, Via Nizza, Turin, Italy. March 2, 1931, No. 6473. Convention date, March 6, 1930. [Class 4.] To enable an aeroplane to alight on snow-covered ground the wheels are removed from spring- supported axles and replaced by skis that are adjustable in inclination, a rear ski being applied to the usual rear skid. The front skis are mounted on triangular tubular frames 5 and are held at the correct angle by elastic members 7, 8 preadjusted or adjustable in tension and provided with cables to limit their extension. The rear ski has a flanged plate 14, Fig. 5, slidably engaging the spring skid 15 and is connected to the fuselage by a double strut 16 having adjustable ends 16a and an elastic member 17 similar to the members 7, 8. The strut 16 is pivoted to a plate 18 on the ski and the angle of the ski is adjusted by screws 19 engaging projections on the lower end of the strut. Hooks 20 may be provided for braking the machine on frozen snow.
