Abstract

350,047. Aeroplanes. MACHRAY, G., Air Ministry, Kingsway, London. March 12, 1930, No. 8006. [Class 4.] An aeroplane has a point 11 spaced from the fuselage on each side to which the main strut 13 of the undercarriage and the bracing 12 from the outer part of the wing 4 is secured. The point 11 is supported by a pyramidal structure 8, 9, 10 and the wing 4 with its bracing 12 can fold about aligned pivots at the point 11 and a point 5 on a centre section 1. A hinged or removable portion 15 on the centre section 1 can be moved out of the way of the wings before folding. The wings are given a sweep back, and the strut 13 slightly inclined rearwardly, in order that the centre section 1 may be placed in a position enabling the hinge axis 5, 11 and therefore the undercarriage axle to be correctly placed with respect to the centre of gravity of the machine. An extra wing may be placed above or below each wing 4 and it may fold about the same hinge.
