Abstract
372,344. Folding wings for aircraft. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., Stag Lane Aerodrome, Edgware, and HAGG, A. E., Maloola, Marsh Lane, Stanmore, both in Middlesex. Jan. 29, 1931, No. 2970. [Class 4.] A single spar cantilever wing has the inner end of its spar pivoted at 15 to the fuselage to enable the wing to be folded back against the fuselage, a flap 17 hinged to or detachable from the wing being previously moved out of the way. The part of the wing forward of the spar is covered with plywood or the material known under the Trade Mark Bakelite and is self-supporting without any other bracing than the ribs. The flap 17 may be triangular in form, as shown, or it may be more nearly rectangular and in its operative position a ramp 36, Fig. 7, on its edge is engaged by a spring catch 32 pivoted on the fuselage. A strut 31 stays the inner corner of the flap. The wing is locked in its extended position by the device described in Specification 372,345.
