Abstract

556,477. Aircraft wings. FLETCHER, O. E., MURRAY, E. A., and EVANS, A. E. April 4, 1942, No. 4519. [Class 4] In a folding wing arrangement, each of a pair of wings 2 has a horizontal hinge connection 3 with a centre section 4 which is mounted to turn about a vertical pivot 5 on the upper part of the fuselage 1. The wings with the section 4 may thus be turned to the fore and aft position shown in full lines and one wing may then be turned over on to the other about its hinge 3. In a modification, a separate centre section is dispensed with, the wings being directly hinged together. Bracing struts 7 are hingedly secured to the underside of the wings at 8 and are detachably secured to the fuselage at 9. The rearwardly extending wing rests in the folded position on a bracing strut 10 extending between tail fins 11.
