Abstract

564,925. Controlling aircraft. BUDD, A. E. March 25, 1943, No. 4833. [Class 4] An aeroplane has the outer portions 3 of its wings movable from a position transverse to the machine to a position adjacent to the fuselage during flight. The portions 3 are pivoted about vertical axes within slots formed in the stub wings 2. When flying with the wings turned back, the aircraft is controlled by flaps 10 hinged to both upper and lower surfaces of the stub wings 2. The wings are locked in both their transverse and longitudinal positions. The flaps may also be used to increase the resistance at landing with the wings extended. The usual ailerons 12 are also provided.
