Abstract

576,120. Controlling aircraft. HEPPNER, F. A. M. July 16, 1941, No. 9003. [Class 4] A flying-boat propelled by at least two jet engines 13 mounted on the wings close to the fuselage, is provided with two upwardlyinclined fins 16 having hinged surfaces 17 movable in the same and opposite directions respectively for elevating and steering. A horizontal hinged surface 15 is provided for trimming purposes. The surfaces 17 are connected by cables to a control stick movable about horizontal and vertical axes. According to the Provisional Specification, the lower part of the hull has a section pivoted about a central transverse pivot so as to form a double step when taking off. Retractable side floats also are provided. Specifications 544,909 and 574,447, [both in Group XXVI], are referred to.
